Meet the Executives

2021 – 2022

Sydney Walton

President

Sydney is the current president of the SHLUB. He is an undergraduate student at SFU majoring in Cognitive Science, minoring in Learning and Developmental Disabilities, and pursuing the Speech Science certificate. Interested in psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics, and language development, he intends to pursue Speech-Language Pathology once he finishes his BA degree. His focus is on speech and communication development in children with autism due to his years of working in special education.

Alev Maleki

Vice-President

Alev is the new Vice President of the Speech and Hearing Club. She is majoring in Linguistics, minoring in Learning and Developmental Disabilities, and will acquire the Certificate in the Linguistics of Speech Science. After Alev receives her BA, she intends to go to graduate school to obtain her Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology. She is passionate about helping others, healthy living, and personal growth. Outside of school, you may find her volunteering, at the gym, or hanging out with her dogs!

Teresita Garduño

Treasurer

Teresita is currently serving as Treasurer. She is excited to be a part of the executive team. As a Psychology Major and Linguistics minor she is aspiring to go to grad school for Speech and Language Pathology. She is passionate about giving others the means to express themselves. Currently, Teresita is working as a Behavioural Interventionist and volunteering with Aphasia Peer Connect and Stroke Recovery Groups.

Sara Jahanshahi

Forum and Communications Officer

Sara Jahanshahi is the new Forum and Communications Officer for the SHLUB. She is a third-year Biological Science student. She loves studying biology and has always wanted a career as an audiologist. She loved the experience of volunteering at a hearing clinic which inspired her to pursue this career. She also loves being creative and doing art! She also enjoys swimming and coaching lessons as well! She is excited to get to know everyone and share each other’s passions.

Johnny Zhou

Secretary

Johnny is an undergraduate student at SFU studying Linguistics and Psychology. He has an interest in Audiology and hopes to be able to take advantage of cochlear implant technology and work with the younger population. His focus is on introducing people to the world of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology.
